Leaving a gift in your will to Sherbourne Health or one of its programs can be an inspiring way of making a lasting impact, ensuring that causes you care about will continue to thrive with your help in the future. You don’t have to be rich to make a tangible difference; your support matters to Sherbourne.

When the time is right, please consider making a long-term impact through a bequest.

Legacies maximize tax benefits, and protect your interests and those of your family. The two most frequently used methods of making a planned gift are specific bequests and residual bequests. A specific bequest gives a definite amount of money to the named beneficiary; and a residual bequest gives the remaining amount, or a percentage of the remaining amount, after all of your specific bequests have been honoured.

Remember, a will is a legal document. We strongly encourage you to seek legal estate planning advice from a qualified lawyer if you are making or changing your will. Your lawyer or financial advisor can help you decide which option is best for you and your loved ones, but we can help by suggesting legal wording.

Please contact Joe Goulart, Manager, Fund Development at jgoulart@sherbourne.on.ca or 416-324-4100 ext. 3351 with any questions. We understand that making a will can be a sensitive and personal business and any approaches will be kept confidential.

I will be leaving a bequest to SOY. I can’t think of a better way to leave an enduring legacy that will have a critical and valuable impact on the lives of LGBTQ youth in need.

I like the idea of being useful to my community after I’m gone. I know that Sherbourne will still be around as a leader in trans programming.
