about the role

We are presently looking for a Full-Time Registered Nurse (RN) to join the LGBT2SQ Communities Team to provide primary nursing care to clients at Sherbourne Health. Our Registered Nurses are key members of the interdisciplinary care team and work to their full scope of practice.

responsibilities & tasks

  • Providing comprehensive nursing care for clients at Sherbourne Health.
  • Collaborating with clients and families as well as the multidisciplinary team to develop client care plans.
  • Leading primary care appointments for reasons including chronic disease management, health teaching, scheduled immunizations, well baby visits, pap tests, venipuncture, electrocardiogram (ECGs), sexual health counselling, TB testing, and focused health history taking and triage for episodic health concerns.
  • Supporting clients by facilitating referrals to appropriate internal and external health and social services.
  • Playing a leadership role in supporting PrEP Cohort Study, HIV Point of Care Program and medication management.



  • Current Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses in the General Class (BScN preferred)
  • 3 to 5 years demonstrated Nursing experience in a community health, primary care, or similar setting

knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience/interest in working with Sherbourne’s priority populations
  • Understanding of population health issues for LGBT2SQ communities, newcomers/refugees, and persons experiencing homelessness.
  • Experience/interest in working with communities facing barriers to accessing health care due to poverty, social isolation, homelessness, mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Experience working with individuals going through gender transition, and working people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong knowledge of anti-racist, decolonizing, and anti-oppressive ways of working with newcomers, immigrants and refugees, persons experiencing homelessness, LGBT2SQ and racialized communities.
  • Solid interpersonal and crisis intervention skills.
  • Experience and comfort working with an electronic charting system
  • Primary care health assessments and education including sexual health counselling, well-baby visits, scheduled immunizations, and cancer screening and prevention
  • Understanding of the social determinants of health as they impact Sherbourne’s priority populations
  • Openness to working ocassionally in satellite locations as needed
  • Proven ability to problem solve effectively and independently.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams is an asset
  • Availability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, and Saturdays.
  • Ability to speak a second language of Sherbourne’s priority populations is an asset
