about the role:
You are a highly motivated individual who provides clinical information and clinical consultation, coaching, and resources to clinicians and social service providers in order to support culturally and clinically competent care, and who provides information to trans people and their loved ones about access to health care and community supports in Ontario.
day to day responsibilities:
As the Trans Health Information Specialist, you will respond to clinical and general inquiries regarding trans health and access to health care. You will assess health care providers’ needs for clinical and non-clinical information and support; provide information, coaching, and mentoring regarding clinical pathways, referral options, and making appropriate referrals, both for transition-related surgeries and other forms of health care for trans people, and to help providers develop an understanding of treatment and care pathways across the province.
You will provide information to trans and non-binary people and their loved ones about trans health, options for transitioning, and options about and health care and community supports. You will develop new evidence-based resources for health care providers and community members, through researching and synthesizing information, engaging key stakeholders, and coordinating development and/or peer review processes, as well as maintain existing resources. You will lead, coordinate and support RHO’s portion of Trans Health Expansion (THEx) initiatives, including assisting with organizing THEx partnership meetings, coordinating and leading RHO’s subcommittees focusing on THEx work.
to thrive in this role, you’ll need:
education / experience
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and current member (in good standing) of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in nursing roles that have included the provision of information
knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Knowledge of the options for accessing health care and community supports in Ontario for trans and non-binary people.
• Strong knowledge of anti-racist, decolonizing, and anti-oppressive understandings of trans and non-binary people and communities in Ontario, an understanding of the impacts of colonization on trans and non-binary Ontarians and how this can affect access to health care, and ability to communicate from this perspective.
• Excellent interpersonal skills: verbal and written communication; ability to communicate effectively, respectfully and compassionately with multiple audiences (including physicians, other clinicians, community members).
• (Preferred) Fluent in English and French, both oral and written.
• Ability to motivate, problem-solve and deal with complex issues with sensitivity and respect.
• Strong organizational skills; ability to lead and coordinate meetings, take on multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines and manage tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
• Ability to research, synthesize, and prepare information for a range of audiences.
• Computer literacy required -Database management skills preferred.
• Demonstrated and software skills (MS Office, Lotus Notes, PowerPoint, Excel).

• The standard hours of this position are Monday to Friday, however work outside of those hours will be required.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing environments
• Travel within Ontario will be required on occasion.
• The position requires diplomacy in dealing with many stakeholders, considerable multi-tasking, setting priorities as needed.
