Sherbourne Health announces name change, refreshed brand identity and strategic plan
TORONTO, July 16, 2018 – Sherbourne Health Centre officially announced a change of its business name to Sherbourne Health and launched a refreshed brand identity, along with a four-year strategic plan at the organization’s Annual General Meeting on June 12.
Throughout 2017, Sherbourne undertook a comprehensive stakeholder engagement process, conducting extensive consultations with service users, staff, donors, volunteers and community members to assess its current state and determine its key future directions. The plan sets out three broad strategic directions to increase access for priority service users, influence population health outcomes to advance health equity and address disparities, and strive for organizational excellence through capacity-building and continued innovation.
Sherbourne Health Centre was established in 2002 in the former Central Hospital to prioritize services for and address the health needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities. Since this time, it has evolved to become a safe haven for communities not adequately served by other health services, providing a range of supports for 2SLGBTQ communities, homeless and under-housed populations and newcomers to Canada. Services and care have always been delivered wherever they are needed through flagship programs like The Rotary Club of Toronto Health Bus, Supporting Our Youth, the St. James Town Community Corner satellite clinic, and Sherbourne’s provincial knowledge transfer and capacity-building program Rainbow Health Ontario. The new name, Sherbourne Health, and its visual identity more closely reflect this responsive, community-driven philosophy and that Sherbourne’s offerings are not confined to its fixed address at 333 Sherbourne Street.
Sherbourne Health partnered with Rain43, a local Toronto-based brand strategy agency that provided kind pro bono support, to develop its new logo and visual identity. The result is a fresh, modern look and feel that mirrors Sherbourne’s newly restated values: BOLD, KIND, REAL, OPEN, WE CARE. These values also emerged as part of the strategic planning process. The familiar ‘leaf mark,’ vibrant, warm colours and simple fonts further reinforce that Sherbourne Health is committed to caring for and advancing the health of its communities.
