Cancer Screening
Cancer screening looks for cancer in people before they have symptoms. This means that you should still get screened even if you feel well. The goal is to catch cancer at an early stage when it is easier to treat. Different types of cancer have different screening methods, and not everyone needs each one. Your healthcare provider will help determine which screenings you need based on your age, sex, family history, health insurance coverage, what body parts you have and other risk factors.

What is Cancer Screening?
Cancer screening looks for cancer in people before they have symptoms. This means that you should still get screened even if you feel well. The goal is to catch common cancers at an early stage when they are easier to treat. Different types of cancer have different screening methods, and not everyone needs each one. The tests used to screen for cancer are safe and practical for many people to take. Your healthcare provider will help determine which screenings you need based on your age, sex, family history, health insurance coverage, what body parts you have and other risk factors.
Ontario has 3 main screening programs that check for: Breast/Chest Cancer, Cervical Cancer, and Colon Cancer.
What about other screening for other types of cancer?
If you have questions about other cancers, a healthcare provider can talk to you about them. For example, there are higher-risk screening programs for lung cancer screening for people who have smoked for many years and some providers do screening tests for anal cancer or regular check-ups for prostate cancer.
