Our recipe for change recognizes that in order to assist people facing food insecurity, poverty, and social isolation, we need to expand our approach to include skills development along with nutritional education.
Our new lobby café is a part of the Sherbourne Health Food for Good initiative that offers healthier options, along with training and employment opportunities for our service users and community members. All of these enhancements are supplemented by creating an accessible space for gathering and using a social enterprise contractor to further expand training opportunities to those who need it.
Learn more about Building the Food for Good Café
The Food for Good Café is more than a place to eat. It’s a key part of our response to local food insecurity. Support of the café went directly towards creating a place where those looking to grow their skills can pursue job and training opportunities, as well as a place that’s accessible for community gatherings.
Through Sherbourne Health’s Food for Good initiative, people who attend our in-person programs have access to food supports. These supports can be culturally affirming, community-building, and bring people together.
We are so pleased to be working with Construct on the transformation of our Café. Construct is an employment social enterprise that provides in-class training, on-the-job work experience, and wraparound supports to help vulnerable individuals secure long-term, well-paying careers in the construction trades.
