Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Celebrates Launch of Food for Good Café
On June 25, our community gathered to celebrate completed construction of the Food for Good Café, an eagerly anticipated initiative and program launch that will make a real difference in local food security. We marked this incredible milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and we were joined by Kristyn Wong-Tam, MPP for Toronto Centre, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, generous donors, supporters, our board members, and attendees of our annual general meeting, which occurred earlier in the day.
The café grew from a successful capital campaign to raise funds for the next step in our Food for Good vision — a café and social enterprise that would serve affordable, nutritious food and provide employment training for people in our neighbourhood. Through partners like Construct, an employment social enterprise that helped transform our first-floor lobby café, this project has already helped people who face employment barriers get hands-on training for working in construction.
We thank all who celebrating this achievement with us! Please look forward to visiting the Food for Good Café when it officially opens its doors in late July.
The Sherbourne Health Food for Good (FFG) initiative creates opportunities that increase access to food and connect people to community. FFG integrates the many food and nutrition support programs we provide to individuals who face food insecurity, need support to manage their dietary restrictions and want to improve their quality of health and wellbeing, as well as food insecurity and community building.
