Empowered Advocacy: Navigating School Systems as LGBTQ+ Families and Individuals (VIRTUAL)

Workshop Description:
This workshop is designed specifically for LGBTQ+ families, individuals, and allies who want to feel confident and equipped when engaging with schools. Whether you’re advocating for yourself, your child, or your community, this session offers practical tools and affirming strategies to help you be seen, heard, and respected within educational spaces.
Participants will:

• Understand how to navigate school systems, roles, and processes as LGBTQ+ individuals and families
• Build skills to advocate effectively and visibly in ways that reflect and honour your identities
• Learn to engage with school policies using inclusive, affirming language that reflects the diversity of queer and trans experiences
• Gain strategies to challenge discriminatory practices and advocate for change through the lens of Ontario’s Human Rights Code and equity frameworks
• This is a supportive and identity-affirming space that centres LGBTQ+ voices, lived experiences, and leadership. You’ll leave feeling more empowered to create safe, inclusive, and equitable school environments for all.
