Peer Pals

Peer Pals is a 10-week peer support training program on Thursdays for all 2SLGBTQ youth aged 16-29 with lived experience of mental health and substance use challenges.

This project will cover specific topics including suicide prevention, depression, anxiety, and how to promote overall wellbeing.

Participants will receive $50/session as well as TTC fare and a meal.

Learning Objectives:

• Foundational mental health knowledge

• An introduction to peer support, including building skills in communication, active listening, critical thinking, and building relationships

• Skills in adapting the peer support model when working with people who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ and/or racialized (cultural competency)

• Suicide prevention and intervention skills

• Harm reduction and anti-stigma skills

• Maintaining boundaries and sustainable advocacy 2SLGBTQ youth aged 16-29
