Sherbourne Health Centre awarded ‘Family Practice of the Year’
TORONTO, Nov. 8, 2017 – Sherbourne Health Centre has received the 2017 Family Practice of the Year Award from the Ontario College of Family Physicians. This prestigious award celebrates the achievements and hard work of a family practice in providing exceptional care to its users and making meaningful contributions to the health and well-being of their communities.
The announcement marks Family Doctor Week in Canada, which takes place from November 6-11, and celebrates the crucial role of family physicians in maintaining the health of Canadians.
Sherbourne’s nomination was put forth in March 2017 for the ‘large practice’ category comprising six or more physicians. As an interdisciplinary primary care team, Sherbourne’s family practice is being recognized for its excellence in community and medical leadership, which includes the provision of medical and nursing care, chronic disease prevention and management, mental health counselling, community support and outreach, nutrition, health promotion and medical administration.
This award also highlights the family practice’s dedication to life-long learning and teamwork to ensure ongoing quality client care. Sherbourne works hard to become culturally competent and practice from an anti-racism, anti-oppression framework that is known for being respectful and ‘queer-positive.’ Through internal collaboration at Sherbourne and external community partnerships, Sherbourne creates programs, services, education and outreach that are tailored to the specific health and wellness needs of its clients.
Sherbourne will be honoured at the 2017 OCFP Honours and Awards ceremony on November 23.
